Featured in the June 2017 issue of International Gymnast magazine, German gymnast Nils Dunkel said his 22nd-place all-around finish in qualifications at the European Championships in Romania in April demonstrates his potential to be a German team leader. "It's such a small difference between me and the others, so I think that, in one year, I'll be closer," said Dunkel, who ranked third among the German all-arounders at Europeans and therefore did not advance to the 24-gymnast all-around final. A maximum of two gymnasts per country could advance. Read "Genuine Germans," a collection of behind-the-scenes profiles of German gymnasts Dunkel, Philipp Herder, Tabea Alt and Elisabeth Seitz at Europeans, in the June 2017 issue of International Gymnast magazine.
