Reigning U.S. junior national champion Rebecca Bross and senior clubmate Christa Tanella won the 2008 WOGA Classic, held Saturday night in Frisco, Texas.

Left to right: Ashleigh Brennan (Australia), Christa Tanella (WOGA) and Kristina Vaculik (Canada)

WOGA also won the team title, outscoring teams from Russia and Australia.

Bross, 14, was the high scorer in both the junior and senior divisions with a 58.350, despite a fall on every event except vault (double-twisting Yurchenko). Her evening high came on beam where she earned a 15.700.

Nailia Mustafina, 12, was second with a 57.90. The tiny Russian was a crowd favorite on bars (Tkatchev; Stalder, Pak salto combination) and beam (back handspring two foot, full (fall); standing layout stepout, back pike; round off, double pike dismount). Her older sister Aliya Mustafina, who was second all-around to Bross at the Japanese Junior International in September 2007, scratched with an injury.

Russia's Viktoria Komova won the junior all-around bronze and the gold on vault. Komova is the daughter of 1986 Goodwill Games champion Vera Kolesnikova.

Tanella, 16, was first in the senior field with a 56.90. A highlight included a stuck Yurchenko 1 1/2 for a 14.850. The competition marked Tanella's first victory at an international meet.

Australian two-time world team member Ashleigh Brennan tied Canadian Kristina Vaculik for second all-around with a 56.75. Brennan was first on beam with a 15.450. Vaculik won senior vault and world teammate Nansy Damianova won senior uneven bars.

All Olympia's Samantha Shapiro, 14, was first and third on junior uneven bars and balance beam, respectively. Shapiro said she has been training all four events, but they were not competition-ready due to some pain in her heel. Clubmate Mattie Larson won senior floor exercise.
