Scouting 2009's New Senior Standouts: Part 4
(8 votes, average 3.38 out of 5)

In a four-part online series, IG Contributor Albert Minguillón i Colomer scouts the female gymnasts eligible for senior competition in 2009.

The Olympic Games are the main goal of most athletes, and it's not unusual that once the dream is fulfilled, some gymnasts decide to stop the sport and transition to a life with fewer sacrifices. This situation opens the door for new faces, some unknown and some expected. In 2009, there's a new crop of gymnasts turning senior and it's important to start getting familiar with the new names. Let's take a look at the gymnasts born in 1993 who will be age-eligible for senior competition this year.

Part Four: Russia though the United States

Russia
Russia is in the same boat as China. All its promising juniors are younger, and the depth of the program allows this situation. There are several gymnasts turning senior this year, but none of them have had a great junior career. We'll have to wait another year for the 1994 group of Russians, including Tatiana Nabiyeva and Aliya Mustafina, who went 1-2 at the 2008 Junior Europeans.
Slovakia
Kristina Rehakova and Athina Karaindrosova participated at Junior Europeans with average results. Karaindrosova is more consistent than Rehakova and obtains better results. Their best event is beam.
Slovenia
The junior Slovenians as a whole surprised last year with their performances. Far from the top, they've improved their results from previous years and it would be interesting how they perform as seniors. Only Ivana Kamnikar and Tjasa Kysselef turn senior this year, but Adela Sajn and Sasa Golob will appreciate their incorporation at the senior level.

Kamnikar shows correct technique in most of what she does. She vaults a Tsukahara pike. On bars, she probably does more difficulty than she's able to consistently with a Gienger and a double front dismount.

Tjasa Kysselef's scores have been improving since the beginning of the year. Her all-around has improved from a high 48 to a 51.900, but she still needs to upgrade her routines. She does a Jaeger and double front off on bars, but only an aerial - flic, aerial, side somi, front full off on beam.
